Climate Change and Education: Securing a Sustainable Future

Climate change poses a serious threat to the stability and future of our planet. Addressing it means not only mitigating its effects today but also preparing future generations to tackle the problems we leave behind. Sustainable development cannot be discussed without considering the resources, skills, and knowledge that young people will need to face this growing crisis. As a society, we must take urgent action, and one of the most powerful ways to drive change is by transforming our education system.

We believe that, to secure the future of our children and the planet, environmental sustainability must be embedded in education. This means equipping students with the knowledge and tools to understand the urgent need for sustainable living and empowering them to implement real-world solutions. As our civilization evolves, so too must our priorities and values. It’s critical that the next generation of leaders, innovators, and problem solvers is well-versed in environmental issues and motivated to take action.

To achieve this, we are on a mission to make sustainability and circular economy topics a core part of school curricula. Students should not only learn about the negative impacts of pollution and the importance of environmental stewardship but also be given opportunities to develop solutions and put them into practice. By nurturing these values from an early age, we can inspire a generation that is passionate about protecting the planet and committed to combating climate change.

What We’re Doing

To foster this change, we’re working with top educators, scholars, and researchers to implement new curriculum focused on environmental education, a community focus and ecosystem principles. This curriculum, which can be implemented as a core component in schools, aims to motivate behavior change through education, awareness-raising and action.

Together with our partner, Harmony, we are working with the Embark Federation and to pilot our environmental education program across 38 schools in the UK. Internationally, we’re working with organizations such as Zero Plastic, All It Takes, and the African Leadership Organisation to create a global impact spanning from Africa, to India and beyond. Together, we’re developing innovative programs that use gamification to engage students in sustainability topics and foster a culture of environmental responsibility. By prioritising education and collaboration, we are giving future generations the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to take on the challenge of climate change and protect our planet for years to come.
