Bali Wise

Empowering marginalized women through skills education as a means to develop sustainable communities in Indonesia.

We prepare young Indonesian women from different regions to become part of a sustainable community by being able to provide income for their families.
We educate to create a pathway to skilled and decent employment in the hospitality and retail sector in Indonesia, or to improved self-employment.
We deliver high quality education and skills training that can live up to the high quality standards of professional businesses.

Education & skills training

The Bali WISE program is built up in two parts.

1. Three months of basic hospitality & life skills. The students learn English, essentials about the hospitality industry, hospitality skills, environmental training, health & safety, sexual reproductive health and family planning, personal finance management, and confidence building. They learn how to prepare a CV and practice job interviews. After completion, students receive a Graduation Certificate.

2. Three months of practical on-job training with one of the eleven Bali WISE education partners; 5-star resorts and hotels, spa academies, and tour and travel agencies. After completion, students will receive a Vocational Training Certificate. 

Both certificates are recognized by the hospitality industry.

Bali WISE Campus

The facilities include two classrooms, IT library, yoga area, kitchen, eating area, two dormitories, toilets and shower blocks. There is a professional education team on site for 24/7 guidance. Bali WISE is the only hospitality training program that offers skills education at no cost to students. The young women in the program have free accommodation, 3 meals per day, uniforms, study books, and transport. In addition, they receive a small monthly allowance of IDR 300.000-600.000/month. Most students send this money home, which decreases pressure for them to come back to their village and help support their family.

Recruitment of students

Marginalized women are welcomed to apply from all parts of Indonesia and all religions All student’s families are registered with the Indonesian Social Department and have an official certificate.  The Bali WISE recruitment officer visits schools, village leaders, and orphanages all over Indonesia All students must pass an entrance exam, requirement: limited knowledge of English.

  • Orphanages Children’s and other foundations (Bali Children Foundation, East Bali Poverty Project)
  • Church groups (Bali WISE is not a religious foundation or affiliate, and teaches no doctrine)

Students success stories

Cristin

a young and determined woman from a Bali, transformed her life through unwavering motivation, resilience, and a commitment to continuous learning. Growing up is challenging due to her family’s financial situation. To help support her family, she assisted her mother in selling ready-made food after school to make ends meet. Despite financial hardship blocking her way to pursue higher education after high school, Cristin’s determination to change has led her to discover Bali WISE. Her mother’s struggles became her driving force, inspiring her to seek a brighter future for her family. Active and communicative, Cristin is one of the excellent students during the program. She secured a training opportunity in the Housekeeping Department at one of our partner hotels. Post- graduation, Cristin’s landed a job at a five-star hotel in Qatar (Doha).

Ulan

a strong young woman from a simple family living in Bali. Born into a life of financial instability, her father worked as a farm laborer, and the family faced constant challenges. During her school years, Ulan faced numerous struggles. Despite the odds, she persevered, taking on numerous jobs and working at the Ubud Palace to make ends meet. During harvest seasons, she became a sessional laborer to earn additional pocket money. Ulan’s determination led her to join the Bali WISE program. This opportunity opened doors for her, leading to a training position at a prestigious five-star hotel in Nusa Dua. Now employed with a stable income, Ulan transformed her life and became a beacon of hope for her family. She contributes to her family’s economic well-being, and most importantly, she can help with her younger sibling’s education.

Bali WISE Results

Every year, Bali WISE has a target of 100 young women to complete their training and graduate.
From 2007 until 2023, Bali WISE has educated and skilled 1,752 disadvantaged women.
On average, 81% gets full-time quality employment with fair wages within three months after graduating.
