Think Ocean's roots lie with a group of environmentalists who in 1992, united several organisations towards a common goal; to stop the whale hunting in the South Pacific, ending with the co-creation of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary in 1995. Founding members continued working on environmental projects globally, including the creation of San Antonio Wildlife Rescue Centre due to “El Nino current” Pacific Ocean emergency and expanded focus in supporting organisations tackling whale hunting, deforestation, wildlife trafficking, conservation and the adoption of CITES treaty of Latin America. One of these founding members, Hugo Valdes-Vera, seeing the impact of pollution, particularly plastic pollution from rivers into the oceans, went on to form Think Ocean in the UK, with the intention of addressing the plastic pollution crisis. He was then joined by Noleen Mariappen and they now form the founding team of Think Ocean CIC.
